A Faithful God....
While doing my cleaning yesterday I ran across some papers tucked away in a pile. There were quite a few things from Jesse and Jared's first few months of life. Those first 6 weeks were spent in the NICU due to their being born 10 weeks premature. There were some ultrasound pics, some hospital bands, some pictures that proud big sisters, Bethany and Sarah had drawn to decorate their little isolette beds... Also tucked in that pile of papers/items was a folded up, crinkled piece of paper with a bunch of scribbling on it. I almost tossed it in the garbage bin, but then thought to myself that maybe I had better check it out first, so as not to regret something later on. It must be there for a reason...right? On it were these figures...
Hospital bill....$12,000.00
Ambulance bill....$6545.00
NICU care for 6 weeks:
Jesse....$96,397.00
Jared....$98,045.90
Total....$212,987.90
What we had to pay...$300.00 in co-pays
($100 for myself and $100 for each baby)
These were the costs that I had jotted down on a piece of scratch paper a few years back, while going through the piles and piles of hospital bills/statements that we had received for almost a full year following Jesse and Jared's birth. They reminded me again of just one of the many ways that God provided for us during an exciting yet difficult time in our lives.
We had just moved from CA to the Northwest 3 1/2 months prior. When we made the move and inquired about the health care options through my husband's job for this area, they were not as good as we had hoped. We had been blessed by good coverage in CA but found out after the move that those same plans were not offered where we now lived. Knowing that I was pregnant with twins, we were concerned, as it would mean paying a big chunk of the expenses ourselves. This could get expensive as a pregnancy with multiples could bring lots of unknowns! (Little did we know what was ahead of us at the time!) After many phone calls and talking to different people within the benefits department, we were informed that a new plan would go into effect in JAN of 2007 and we would be allowed to switch to it at the end of 2006. We were so happy and relieved! And then....just 6 weeks after the new coverage went into effect, Jesse and Jared made their surprising early appearance! What did we have to pay? A mere $300.00. What would we have had to paid with the insurance that we had during 2006? Over $20,000.00! Let me tell you....we surely didn't have that kind of money tucked away! We had just pulled up roots, moved over 600 miles and bought our first house, and with it came our first mortgage! We would have surely not been able to get into a house, and would have most likely been in some serious debt for years to come, if God had not provided the insurance that He did for Jesse and Jared's birth! Looking back, I am once again amazed and so very thankful for His perfect timing! God knew what we would need even before we did...and He provided it! Our move and the firsts 6 months thereafter are filled with these kind of amazing stories! I have tried to jot them down over time to share with the children when they are older, and also to remind myself of God's faithfulness to His children. Isn't it awesome to look back and see how God has worked in a way that only He could have!

Wow! Now that's great insurance.
God's timing is perfect, isn't it.
